How Anxiety Therapy Can Help
Find Steadiness In the Spiral
Understand your anxiety patterns
Explore what tends to trigger worry, panic, avoidance, overthinking, or physical tension so your anxiety starts to feel less confusing and more workable.
Calm your nervous system
Learn grounding tools, breathing strategies, and body-based practices that can help you move through anxious moments with more support.
Shift unhelpful thought loops
Therapy can help you notice repetitive worries, “what if” thinking, perfectionism, self-criticism, and worst-case-scenario thoughts with more compassion and clarity.
Build practical coping skills
Develop strategies for sleep, boundaries, emotional regulation, decision-making, communication, and daily stress so anxiety feels less in charge.
Support ADHD-related overwhelm
If anxiety overlaps with ADHD, executive functioning, sensory needs, or burnout, therapy can help you understand those connections and find tools that fit your brain.
Reconnect with daily life
Work toward feeling more present in relationships, routines, work, school, parenting, and the parts of life that anxiety may have made harder to access.

How Anxiety Therapy Works
We use evidence-informed approaches that are personalized to your needs, goals, pace, and nervous system.
Getting to know you
Your therapist will take time to understand what anxiety feels like for you, including worry, panic, avoidance, stress, perfectionism, physical tension, sleep, ADHD-related overwhelm, or burnout.
Creating a support plan
Together, we identify what you want support with and what kind of therapy approach feels most helpful, whether you need practical tools, emotional processing, nervous system support, or space to make sense of patterns.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) supports individuals with anxiety by promoting acceptance of uncomfortable thoughts and feelings, rather than avoidance or resistance. ACT guides you to observe anxious thoughts without self-judgment and redirect your focus toward personal values, enabling you to make choices aligned with what matters most, even when you are anxious.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps you recognize and reframe negative beliefs about yourself and others’ perceptions, gradually approach and confront feared situations in a safe, structured manner, and build effective coping strategies to manage anxiety symptoms.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) can help you manage anxiety by teaching practical skills to handle strong emotions, cope with challenging situations, and communicate more confidently with others.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness helps you focus on the present moment, rather than worrying about the future or dwelling on the past. This practice increases your awareness of anxious thoughts and feelings as they arise, making it easier to respond calmly instead of reacting with avoidance or fear.
Building skills that fit your life
Anxiety therapy helps you develop skills that are tailored to your unique circumstances and daily routines. Working collaboratively with your therapist, you will identify specific challenges and create practical strategies that fit your lifestyle.
This may include learning coping techniques such as relaxation methods and grounding exercises, practicing assertive communication to express your needs and boundaries, and building problem-solving skills to address obstacles with greater confidence.
Helping you move forward
Over time, therapy can help you better understand your anxiety, respond to stress with more steadiness, and feel more confident navigating daily life.

FAQs About Anxiety Therapy
How can I tell if anxiety is something therapy could help with?
Therapy may help if worry, panic, overthinking, avoidance, stress, or physical tension are affecting your sleep, relationships, work, school, parenting, or daily life.
Do I need a diagnosis to start anxiety therapy?
No. You do not need a formal diagnosis to reach out. Many clients begin therapy because they feel overwhelmed, stuck, on edge, or unsure how to manage what they are experiencing.
Can anxiety therapy help if I also have ADHD?
Yes. Anxiety and ADHD can overlap, especially when executive functioning, sensory needs, perfectionism, or burnout are part of the picture. Therapy can help you understand these connections and build strategies that fit your brain.
What happens in an anxiety therapy session?
Your therapist will get to know what anxiety feels like for you and what you want support with. Sessions may include talking through patterns, learning coping tools, supporting emotional regulation, or exploring what is underneath the anxiety.
Do you offer anxiety therapy online?
Yes. Anxiety therapy may be available in person for clients in Kitchener-Waterloo and online across Ontario, depending on clinician fit and availability.
Are College and University Students covered for therapy/counselling?
Yes. If you have a health insurance plan through your college or university, this often covers therapy and counselling services with Registered Psychotherapists, Registered Social Workers, and Clinical Psychologists.
However it is always best to confirm with your college or university regarding your coverage details as the coverage amounts are subject to change.
For example, as of the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 academic years:
- Wilfred Laurier University (WLU): Undergraduate students covered under the StudentCare health plan are eligible for 80% coverage per visit up to a maximum of $800 per policy year.
- University of Waterloo (UW): Undergraduate students covered under the WUSA StudentCare health plan are eligible for 80% coverage per visit up to a maximum of $1,250 per policy year. Graduate students under the GSA plan also have coverage up to $1,250 per year at 80% per visit.
